“He has a congenital diaphragmatic hernia.” When those words were said to me 5 and a half years ago, I had no idea what they meant. CDH is detected in about 1 in every 3200 births yet I had never heard of it, and I’m sure a lot of others may not have either. It’s #cdhawarenessday and I hope to spread more awareness of what CDH is, and to share that even though it’s a devastating diagnosis, there is SO much hope for these babies! Average survival rates have increased from 50% to 70%, and some specialty hospitals (like JHACH where we took Samuel) have a 90%+ survival rate.
