hey. Did you know? Reels can now be 90 seconds. Considering how fast paced things are now, and how the most trending videos are the 3 second ones, this is not where it’s at. But when I found out about the time extension, I felt relieved to have a bit more room to take my time. I’ll do this occasionally. This is for those of you who will stay for it :) the full podcast, that I cried while editing lol, is in my link in bio. You can search “The Cafe Maddy Podcast” on spotify or apple. 💕 And thanks to @ericjoonho for inspiring my fried-egg bechamel with seaweed toast. I’d eat this the entire week, every day 😙
Had a blast at @choidot_official in Seoul. What was the most fun and creative meal you had, anywhere in the world? #southkorea

Happy Seollal 😭 @citymeals @kcs_ny @jamesyworld and I went to @kcs_ny in Flushing where the local elders gathered to celebrate Seollal, with the meals funded by @citymeals . I was particularly surprised and so grateful to hear that their free meal delivery system support the recipients’ dietary preferences and cultural backgrounds, like the tteokguk meal today that was served with a number of banchans. Attending the event today was an awakening for me to break away from my routine and usual crowd, and to realize how much I more I could be doing for my city. Volunteer and donate with me at citymeals.org !
Happy Seollal 새해복 많이받으세요 🎊🇰🇷 photos by @nothinginpassing hanbok from @hanbokstoryny Seollal, 설날, the Korean Lunar New Year, is one of the biggest national holidays celebrated in South Korea. Seollal is so important that every year South Korea gets a total of 3 days off; the day before Seollal, Seollal, and the day after. The word “Seol” means “new,” and it indicates the first day of the lunar calendar year. One of the traditions for Seollal includes children dressing up in Seolbim. Seolbim is newly made, colorful traditional hanbok wear. The vibrant colors symbolized a new start full of life, and also were the colors that welcomed the upcoming Spring season. In the old times when new fabric and clothing dye was rare, putting on new and colorful clothes was something children looked forward to like Christmas day in the western world. In Seoul, I grew up going to massive family gatherings on Seollal, dressing up in hanbok with multicolored sleeves, and bowing to our elders. As the years went by, the gatherings became smaller and less traditional. From my friends in South Korea I hear that nowadays, the traditions have faded a lot more and people have been taking the time off to travel or spend family time in different ways. The Seolbim Project I did a few years back with @nothinginpassing was a lighthearted ode to this traditional celebration as an immigrant now living in NYC. As I walked around being all silly in my vibrant red hanbok skirt in the grey backdrop of the MTA, I felt like a child again. There was something absolutely liberating to be unabashedly celebrating my heritage in a city that allows me to simply be (things were a bit better in 2024). It’s hard to feel the holidays coming and going when you’re away from home. I hope this is a reminder to find celebration in your own way, wherever you are 🌟
