Taking a page from Olivia’s songbook, @oliviarodrigo designed a custom typeface for Instagram Stories and Edits — drawn from the handwritten lyrics and diaristic energy of her new album, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love. The type is expressive and unraveling, built with contextual alternates so the same letter never appears twice the same way. It feels like reading someone’s diary — intimate, imperfect, unmistakably hers. Available now in Stories and Edits. Write it anyway. ✏️

Your app icon is something you see every single day — so we wanted to make it feel as personal as everything else on Instagram. With Instagram Plus, you can swap out the iconic Instagram gradient icon for something that better matches your current vibe, choosing from a curated collection designed by some of the most exciting creative voices working today. We collaborated with six artists and designers we love — @pablo.rochat (Pablo Rochat), @harukohayakawa (Haruko Hayakawa), @iscreamcolour (Humberto Cruz), @felipepantone (Felipe Pantone), @uzo.art (Uzo Njoku) and @zzdesign (Zipeng Zhu) — and asked each of them to design their own unique take on the Instagram icon. The result is a collection of bold, original icons that bring their distinct artistic perspectives to something you interact with multiple times a day. Long-press the Instagram icon on your home screen, browse the options, and switch to the one that feels right for you. ✨

👤 What would a self-portrait of your digital life look like? Interdisciplinary designer @airlasart (Airla Fan) explored this idea and more during her time studying architecture and human-computer interaction at Carnegie Mellon University, working with code to create visuals, tools and interactive experiences. “My work usually starts with something I’ve noticed in the world, through a conversation with a friend or interesting phenomenon, that sparks a concept worth exploring,” says Airla. “I’m drawn to things people can actually interact with or find personal meaning in, so real-life observation tends to anchor everything I do.” In her “data portrait,” Airla invites viewers to visualize their own digital consumption, turning their browsing history into a color-coded self-portrait organized by their most visited content categories. “Things I would’ve never imagined doing a year ago are now possible because of all these new tools,” she says. “As someone trying to blend tech with creativity, I think it’s really important to keep building with intentionality, and I hope my work can inspire other people to do the same.” 💻 Music by Sugartapes

🧵As Threads celebrates its 3-year anniversary, we’re reflecting on something that’s made this app special from day 1: the way we build together. The Threads design, product and partnership teams regularly sit down with the creators who use the app most — across art, sports, pop culture, journalism and more — to hear what’s working, what’s not and what could be better. These aren’t focus groups or feedback surveys. They’re real working sessions where creators and our team sketch, prototype and problem-solve, side by side. What comes out of those rooms directly shapes what we ship. Because our goal has always been to make Threads the best app for public conversations — the kind that spark perspectives, surface new voices and move culture forward. And we don’t think you get there by building in a vacuum. So we listen, we collaborate and we build with you. 💛

#BookDesignSummer 📖 Every scrap of paper is a precious artifact in the world of junk journaling — especially for artist @bella_grace016 (Bella Grace), who shares updates from her collage-filled journals. “Some may call it trash, but they need to see the potential!” she shares. “I love how it allows you to create something beautiful out of something so simple and disposable.” Using craft paper, stickers and bits of paper ephemera from her day-to-day life and travels, Bella creates junk journal entries that preserve her favorite memories and turn them into works of art. “My journals hold memories big and small, from trips I’ve taken to books I’ve read and snacks I’ve eaten,” she says. “I’m inspired by these lived experiences to capture them any way I can and make a page that is both aesthetically pleasing and exciting when I look back on them in years to come.” Music by Kiri T

#DesignDiaries 📈 “I don’t think I was ever not creative,” says information designer @giorgialupi (Giorgia Lupi). “And by that I don’t mean talented or anything else — but the impulse for making, expressing myself creatively, learning in creative fields and even performing has always been there.” A partner at @pentagramdesign and author of “Dear Data” and “Speak Data,” Giorgia leads work in data visualization, visual storytelling, brand identities and design systems. Across her practice, she uncovers the human stories hidden within data, transforming this functional information into something deeply personal and relatable. She’s brought this perspective to clients across a vast range of industries, from Google and Nike to &Other Stories and MoMA. “I think what keeps pulling me back to this work is the moment someone suddenly sees themselves in something they thought had nothing to do with them,” says Giorgia. “A spreadsheet, a transit map, a scientific data set, a brand that has lost track of what it wants to say — most people walk right past all of that and assume it is just numbers on a page. And I cannot really stand that. I am convinced there is a human story sitting inside almost all of it, and I want to crack it open and hand it back so the person on the other side can go, ‘Oh, this touches my life too. I am allowed to feel something here.’” ✏️ Some of these slides move — let them play ▶️ a tad longer before you swipe.

#BookDesignSummer 📖 This summer, we’re back to exploring the intersection of books and design — and the talented artists who bring the two together in their work. Our first artist is @christinetylerhill (Christine Tyler Hill), a multidisciplinary artist, designer, naturalist and creator of The Cloud Report, a printed newsletter inspired by her day-to-day experiences as a crossing guard. “I document funny and sweet interactions with people, dogs I see, interesting trash I find on the ground and more,” says Christine. Designed, published and mailed monthly to her 3,000 subscribers around the world, The Cloud Report is an eight-page Risograph-printed zine filled with illustrations and written observations. “I started The Cloud Report in part to do more work with traditional materials,” says Christine, “so I draw with pencil, watercolor and brush pens as much as possible.” Through The Cloud Report, Christine has built connections with a wide community near and far, from city foresters and fellow crossing guards to readers across the globe. “I never anticipated that a newsletter about a sleepy intersection in Vermont would connect me with kind strangers around the world,” she says. “It’s the greatest gift.” 🚸 Music by Lyle Workman

A thought becomes a drawing. A drawing becomes a sculpture. A sculpture becomes a room. @sheidlina (Ellen Sheidlin) doesn’t just make art — she builds worlds you can step inside. The Russian artist coined her own movement, Survirtualism, where painting, photography, sculpture and digital realms converge — shaped by European surrealism, Asian visual culture, and her own personal mythology. Her work has drawn international acclaim through solo exhibitions across Asia and Europe, each one challenging perception and inviting audiences to become part of the art itself. This week at Meta’s Creator Sandbox at Cannes Lions, Ellen invited guests to enter her surreal universe and create their own story using Instagram’s Edits.

One gesture, repeated with care — that’s where @yukikawae’s (Yuki Kawae) art begins. His practice is rooted in karesansui, the Japanese tradition of dry garden raking, expanded through sacred geometry and an obsessive attention to pattern. Sand, sculpture, painting — every medium leads to the same place: stillness for those who need it most. This week, he’s bringing that philosophy to Meta’s Creator Sandbox at Cannes Lions. Step into his zen garden, rake your own patterns, and use Instagram’s Edits to turn the experience into something cinematic and entirely your own. It’s an invitation to slow down, look closer, and create from a place of calm.

There’s a moment when clothing stops being fabric and becomes language. For Spanish-born, Paris-based designer and artist @louisrubi (Louis Rubi), that moment is everything. Louis is the founder of LR3 (@lr3_louisrubi) — a label built on a radical premise: fashion should make you feel free. Joyful. Uninhibited. Through clothing, photography and words, Rubi creates work that is exuberantly expressive and radically inclusive. No size restrictions. No gender rules. No age limits. Just pure, unfiltered self-expression. Every piece from LR3 is emotionally charged, designed with one intention — to make you smile, dance and spin in pure joy. This week, Louis is sharing his designs and philosophy at Meta’s Creator Sandbox during Cannes Lions — where everyone is invited to play, step into his world and use Instagram’s Edits to create their own story. 🧡

What happens when you invite one of LA’s most boundary-pushing floral artists into a world built around Play? At Cannes Lions, Meta partnered with @bloomandplume (Maurice Harris) to create living installations that capture what our platforms do best — inspire an endless cycle of creativity and connection. From a botanical mobius strip celebrating the endless cycle of inspiration and creation on our platforms, a larger-than-life floral slide & ball pit beachside photo moment, and an intimate workshop where guests craft wearable floral art with Maurice himself. And he is capturing it all through his @oakleymeta glasses — recording his creative process on the beach, from first bloom to final form. Art becomes play. Play becomes connection. 🌀🌺

What’s growing in your emoji garden? Share your blooms in the comments! 🌷🌹🪻🌱 #ZodiacDesigns ♋ Roll up your sleeves and find your gardening gloves — it’s Cancer season, the perfect time to nurture and care for your inner self. @thepulpgirls (Brianna and Cailie) are here with a mid-year creative check-in: What’s blooming? What might need a little more watering? “This year, Cancer season coincides with a Mercury retrograde AND exciting Jupiter shift into expressive Leo,” say @thepulpgirls. “People tend to get nervous when they hear ‘retrograde,’ but we encourage you to instead slow down and check in on the goals you had at the start of the year.” Explore the special astrological garden that they’ve cultivated for your Zodiac element, and use this time to reflect, recalibrate, and revisit an unfinished project. If you’re enchanted by this garden, check out their new Enchanted Art Club, a monthly snail mail paper art project. 🦀
