Why Should Christians Lose Fat? Excess body fat affects: • mental clarity • energy levels • self-control • emotional regulation • long-term health When those suffer, our capacity to serve, lead, disciple, and endure suffers too. Scripture calls us to be “ready for every good work” (Titus 3:1)—and that includes being physically, mentally, and emotionally able to show up when God calls. Losing fat doesn’t make us more holy. But it often removes barriers that keep us tired, distracted, and inconsistent. Calories. Macros. Micros ➡️ Calories determine how much you weigh. Macros determine your body composition (fat vs. muscle). And micros determine how you feel. You see, you can still have fast food and still lose fat, you just need to know what to order. That’s why I downloaded the LeanBites app, it shows me all of the best low calorie, high protein meals at my favorite restaurants. I’m not necessarily saying fast food is ‘healthier’ than home cooked meals. However, so often I see people putting in so much extra oil, high calorie dressings, or other high calorie ingredients in their homemade dishes. This leads to the meals being super high in calories, and ultimately causing weight and fat gain. Some key things to focus on when losing fat is being in a calorie deficit, eating enough protein, and training in the gym. That’s it. Whether you eat primarily home cooked meals or fast food, fat loss takes time. That’s why it’s so important to develop a system or plan that you actually enjoy and fits your lifestyle. That way, you can not only get to your goals in the short term, but stay that way and keep the weight off in the long run. You’re following a meal plan, but who’s is it? The devil’s “meal plan” is simple: eat what you feel, chase cravings, avoid discipline, start tomorrow. God’s plan is different: eat with purpose, practice self-control, and use food as fuel—not your master. Gluttony isn’t just overeating. It’s letting food have too much control over you. You can be lean and still struggle with it if food, macros, cravings, and protein counts run your day. Here’s how to shift: Plan with wisdom, not impulse. If you’re craving something, don’t ignore it or binge it. Plan for it. Fit it into your day with control and intention. Practice self-control, not necessarily restriction. You don’t need to cut out your favorite foods, you need to lead your choices. Eat what you enjoy, but in a way that honors God and supports the vessel He’s given you to steward. And yes—enjoy food. Feast when it’s appropriate. Celebrate, eat meals with people, enjoy what God has given. But keep it in its proper place. Food is a gift from God - not something to master you.
