When Komatsu engineers equipment such as the HD785 truck, it not only has to be designed to survive the rigours of rough haul roads but extreme environments anywhere on Earth. We travelled to Arctic Sweden and tropical Ghana during the height of the 2025/26 winter to see how two female operators, one a former nurse and one a former financial analyst found the experience of driving their HD785-7 trucks in climates that were poles apart, with Ghana basking in temperatures of 35 degrees Celsius and Artic Sweden freezing at up to minus 30c. Just acquired by WM Plant Hire, the Euromach with Engcon tiltrotator is being used to maintain a 3 metre deep drainage channel. Normally channels like this would be maintained with a long reach excavator reaching from the sides, but with local access being a necessity at all times to the adjoining footpath and with a strict weight limit due to buried services, the Euromach R555H is the only tool for the job.

Komatsu have introduced their next-generation articulated dump truck and Awesome Earthmovers were on the ground to see it at a specially designed test track in Germany to experience its full capabilities. The new HM460-6 is a is an all new model but builds on over a century of Komatsu’s engineering experience and innovation. Building on the legacy of the previous HM400-5 the HM460 delivers 22% better fuel efficiency than the HM400. Body side is increased to 25.7 m3. Intelligent features such as cruise control, hill start assist, waiting brake and semi auto dumping help alleviate operator fatigue and optimise fuel efficiency. The all new super sized cab increases operator visibility and features a new digital dashboard with a 10 inch hi-res rear view monitor, deluxe leather air-suspended seat with heating and ventilation. Smart Quarry Site Readiness integrates the HM460-6 into a fully connected system with dashboards providing real time data on fuel usage, operator performance, fleet utilisation and production tracking, which is accessible any time, anywhere.

A couple of weeks ago we called by a demolition project on the banks of the Aare river in Switzerland. It was the second time seeing the @aregger.bauunternehmung Liebherr M9300 since 2021. The specialist demolition machine weighs around 300 metric tonnes depending on its boom or attachment configurations. The Aregger A-Rex M9300 is Europe’s largest custom-built demolition excavator. Developed by Swiss contractor Aregger AG in close cooperation with Liebherr and assembled by Kocurek Excavators, the machine is based on a Liebherr R9150 upper structure and an R9200 undercarriage
