I went to see where the very first Umami Sauce is born, joining its initial production. It was an emotional experience, akin to witnessing a child's birth, finally standing at the starting line. Although I havn't yet edited the video, I just want to share this joy with you Kimonoko. Despite Kimonoko worldwide using my recipes, obtaining Japanese ingredients for making Japanese cuisine abroad remains challenging. In response to the complexity of Japanese cuisine, I came up with the idea of a sauce that can be diluted with water to make many Japanese dishes. Moreover, one that accommodates various dietary restrictions. Hence, I created the 'Umami Sauce' to cater to diverse dietary needs, inspired by input from my kimonokos. My goal is to make a world EVERYONE can enjoy japanese food. After two years, the Vegan, Gluten-free, Non-alcoholic, Additive-free Kimono Mom Original Umami Sauce is finally complete. With this sauce, anyone anywhere in the world can easily make Japanese cuisine. Japanese food can spread even further across the globe. Despite different races, cultures, and religions, we can all gather around one table. I want to share this sauce with everyone asap, but first, on August 23rd-29th, we will launch it in my home, Japan. With me and Moto will be there, I'd be thrilled if people in Japan could come and say hello to us. For those overseas, our team is working hard to make it accessible to you too, so please wait a little longer! Cooking up steak with @kimono_mom using her umami sauce 🥩🍄 Steak with Umami Butter Sauce • Sear steak in a hot pan until desired doneness • Add butter and baste • Turn heat off • Add ¼ cup @umami_kimonomom • Add 2 stalks green onion, chopped • Add 2 matsutake, thinly sliced • Let residual heat melt everything together Simple. When we visited Sonoma, we stayed @thestavrand , one of our favorite @smallluxuryhotels . What made me happiest was having an outdoor bath in our room♨️🥹💕It might have been the first time since moving to the U.S. that I could soak in a bath all the way up to my chin!! Behind the property stood magnificent cedar trees. One of them had a hollowed center, and we were told it’s formed when a mother tree fades and a new children tree grows from within. It’s called an “Angel Cave.” The hotel was small, quiet, and beautifully luxurious. The staff remembered us, and it felt genuinely warm and welcoming. Nearby wineries offered special discounts for guests, and my husband happily stocked up on wine. We also went hiking to see the cedars, feeling our energy slowly return. Our first trip abroad as a family was to San Francisco, when Sutan was just 5 months old.👶 I was completely exhausted from sleepless nights after giving birth. Moto was at the busiest time of his life as a restaurateur. I had quit my job before giving birth and was struggling with postpartum depression, feeling lost, yet desperately feeling like I had to become someone. On Sutan’s very first flight, she cried almost the entire time, and I held her standing up the whole way. During that trip, I saw something in San Francisco that truly shocked me. There was a long line at a Japanese restaurant, especially a vegan sushi place. And even at non-Japanese restaurants, I kept seeing Japanese words on the menu: Yuzu, edamame, miso…. The Japanese food we ate every day at home was being loved across the ocean, in a completely different way. That experience became a huge inspiration for what would later become Kimono Mom. And now, six years later, the three of us are back here together. I never imagined I would return as Kimono Mom. Visiting the same places, San Francisco, Napa, and Sonoma—I felt Sutan’s growth so deeply. And at the same time, I realized that our family, Moto and I, are living a life we could never have imagined six years ago. Adapting to a new environment isn’t easy for a 5-year-old. Coming to a new country, living in an RV, traveling constantly, and meeting new people every single day… she truly did an amazing job! The Umami Tour, which we started last year November, is coming to an end soon. @umami_kimonomom Along the way, I worried that traveling might mean she wouldn’t have a sense of community. But she turned out to be stronger than I ever imagined. She made friends everywhere we went and now has friends all across the U.S. Thanks to the Kimonoko who volunteered at our samplings and played with her, she’s no longer afraid of connecting with new people.
