@ohlinsracingmtb has released a new crown for the DH38 m2 fork. It was developed with the Specialized Gravity athletes to be stiffer than the previous offering for the purpose of improved steering precision and rider confidence. We are told it is stiffer laterally and torsionally, though percentage increases have not been shared. It is 65 grams heavier than the outgoing crown at a claimed weight of 555 grams. Five-time Downhill World Champion Loïc Bruni has revealed he will be out of competition for at least three months after suffering a serious wrist injury in a crash during practice in Loudenvielle. Bruni shared the update on social media, explaining that he crashed on Friday after repeatedly losing a hand from the bars through impacts, something he said had never happened to him before. This got lost in PB’s social queue and never made it out on here. I think it’s super interesting so though I’d post with some production insight. When @innesgrahambike and I are making the post race vids for @pinkbike, I’m usually busy scripting, filming, then working on post event metadata/media management while he cranks out the edit. There’s not a lot of spare time to do anything “extra” like eat food or do bonus analysis for the vid. Sometimes the stars align and we get a shot in finals where something interesting happens and I just can’t help myself. In the Loudenvielle World Cup race runs, @benoitcoulanges was up on race winner @luca_shaw at the final split and we had a hectic shot of both of them on the final section of track. I wanted to compare them with some ghosting but one of the most time consuming parts of analysis is deciding what story you want to tell and how to visualise it. There’s 3 ways I could compare: 1: Normally I’d start riders at a common “start point” so viewers can see the time difference at the “finish point” I decide on. This shows how the faster rider pulls away. 2: I could align riders on the “finish point” so they start in different places and see the faster rider catching up. 3: Or I could attempt to align riders as close to their actual race position so we can see a virtual race as if they set off out the start gate at the same time. This was a bugger to figure out and involved doing number 2 and offsetting our 100fps footage by 13 frames to get as close to the 0.127 time differential. I went with 3 and it’s the first time I’ve tried this type of comparison. The freehand shot and completely different framing made it very difficult to edit but it was worth it in the end. The comparison really highlights the clean pump Luca put into that right hander and heavy watts he dumps into the exit. Hard to tell but this comparison took 4hours from concept to delivery. Wish I’d taken more time on scripting instead of ad-libbing but key framing is a time hole. #Loudenvielle #ucimtbworldseries #ghosty #PostProduction #Pinkbike
