Her home country of India has more children and teens with Type 1 diabetes than any other place in the world, and misinformation about the autoimmune disease leaves many undiagnosed. It wasn’t until she met Nick Jonas, who was diagnosed at age 13, that she learned Type 1 need not be a limitation. For the past five years, she has spread that message in India as a board member of Beyond Type 1. In the world’s most populous country, Priyanka has become a visible force for change, helping put out viral educational videos that promote early detection and recruiting diabetes ambassadors to reduce misapprehensions about the disease.
