Garden eating, one of the best times of the year! Sliced tomatoes from the garden with a lil salt, tunafish made with sun-dried tomatoes, pickled onions and a little veganaise and mustard greens also from the garden. 🪴 Topped with everything bagel seasoning 😋. The perfect savory breakfast! Trust me, you have never tasted a tomato until you’ve had one picked straight from the vine, it’s a completely different vibe. It seems we are literally the “bees knees” this morning! Woke up to what seems like hundreds of bees taking the pollen from our corn plants. Normally we get a few here and there but this is the first season it’s like this. I know it’s a good thing for pollinating our corn, but wow there’s just so many of them! So we updated our garden space at our residence this year (recall we cultivate in 3 locations). The previous raised wood beds were rotting abd coming apart, so we upgraded to a lower maintenance and more sustainable set up. One of our favorite ways to conserve leafy greens from our garden is to dehydrate them and turn them into powder. These are the kale that we planted last season and came back as soon as the weather warmed up. We then store the powder in our freezer and use it for smoothies, baking, soups, etc. I’ll post a video later that I shared some time ago showing you just how easy it is to do if you have a dehydrator. I’m still using my $30 basic dehydrator I bought several years ago and it still works great! I won’t hurt your feelings and tell you how much kale I had to dehydrate to get this jar 🥹😬😫. #tiayonhomestead #blackhomestead #gardening #kale #dehydrator

If you compost they will come…. Composting is a great way to recycle yard and food “waste” to add rich organic matter to your soil. My daughter woke up complaining about a sore throat this morning, but luckily I have something that we keep on hand that was just the remedy - turmeric, ginger and black pepper ice cubes. I juice the turmeric and ginger, place in an ice tray (best to use one you don’t mind getting stained), then sprinkle a little black pepper on top. Next I freeze it and keep for when we need it. To make a tea out of it, simply boil water and pour it over the ice cube and add raw honey to taste. I added a dehydrated lemon to my daughter’s that I dehydrated myself.
