Microplastics are a big problem on O'ahu and im sure the neighboring islands as well. Anytime there's a big NE swell you can expect to see debris lined along the entire beach. Ive never had a opportunity to visit the James Campbell Wildlife Refuge but Kahana Bay is where I spend alot of time after the new year chasing wind swell. Today we stopped by the Twin Fin Hotel to pick up a sand sifter provided by Parley @parley_hawaii to collect a jar and 5 gallon bucket of microplastics.
History was made on the Northshore as the likes of Darrick Dorner, Shaun Tomson. Barton Lynch, Buzzy Kerbox, Randy Rarrick, Chenney Horan and Tommy Nellis just to name a few gathered at the Hawaii Surf Musuem & Center of Radical Education for a masterclass on wave riding during the 70s around 10am this morning. A small audience in attendance OSF was afforded the opportunity to capture it all for a upcoming episode before Shaun departs O'ahu.
In this episode we were afforded the opportunity for a 1 on 1 interview with Legend Shaun Tomson @shauntomson on his island tour to spread the Surfers Code. The east side of the island has been pounded for the last few days all the way up until possibly Thursday according to NOAA and the NWS. With that being said we made a few stops to document the surf. Ultimately spotting this uncle having a epic session patiently waiting for the set waves combined with wind to roll through.
