Okay that’s not 100% truthful, because I DO purchase meat that we don’t raise here. But will I choose to eat an animal who has a name, who’s been loved and cared for, and who has been raised with dignity up until the last day? YUP. Does that mean that processing day hurts more? YUP. But here’s the thing - it shouldn’t be easy. Purchasing a faceless package of meat on sale doesn’t mean that it wasn’t real, it just means that it had a shitty life …. And that’s not the food system I’m interested in. Meet Oscar. If you’re dealing with goaty tasting milk, then consider below: If you’re a consumer: ❌ grocery store goat milk is pretty awful. ❌ if you’re purchasing from a farm with goaty tasting milk, then find a new farm If you’re a producer: ❌ DON’T keep your bucks anywhere near your does ✔️ DO focus on milk hygiene! Wash + strip before collecting ✔️ DO rapidly chill milk ✔️ DO give your does time for hormones to regulate post kidding. (I’ve had a “goaty” milking post kidding once, and it was gone by the next milking) ✔️DO prioritize herd health: free choice minerals, monitor body condition, frequently check FAMACHA, + rotational grazing just to name a few Drop you experiences with “goaty” milk below!
